can you show me the work for 7/8-5/12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Find the least common denominator, which is 24 (7(3)-5(2)) / 24 (21-10) / 24 11/ 24

OpenStudy (anonymous):

where did you get the 3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Multiplying by 3/3 to the (7/8) yields (21/24)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

could you explain the equation to me step by step I am having a really tough time getting it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I thought the least common denominator would be 4 becuse 4 goes into 12 and 8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sure, Since we established that the LCD is 24, You have to make both of the fractions in the form where the denominator is 24 for both. For 7/8, to make it have the denominator 24, multiply 3/3 to it and you get: 21/24 For 5/12, to make the denominator 24, multiply 2/2 to it and you get: 10/24 Subtract both fractions together and youll get 11/24

thank you
