how do u find km from minutes ?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

is there a more complete question that this comes from?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

is it green yet?

while driving his basketball team to a tournament Mr Reinhart noticed his odometer read 21912km. Being a lover of mathematical curiosities he noticed this number was a palindrome. (a palindrome is a number that reads the same way forwards and backwards). Mr Reinhart said "I bet it will take a long time for that to happen again!" but just 105 minutes later he noticed his odometer was another palindrome! How fast was Mr. Reinhart driving during his part of his trip ?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

21912 105 min later 20 whats the next palindromic number after 21912?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

21912 +100 ------ 22012 +10 ------ 22022 <- right? 110 km in 105 minutes

OpenStudy (amistre64):

110/105 =?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hey my name is a palindrome!

OpenStudy (amistre64):

madam im adam ;)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

well, im anthony but .... that aint palindromic is it ;)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

he was going abt 1.05 km per min

OpenStudy (amistre64):

lulu: that make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not really :S why did u add it by 100 then by 10 ?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

when you look at the odometer at a certain time and it reads: 21912 you go , ok thats my starting point. we need to find the next 'palindrome. that comes after this right?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

we cant subtract anything so we have to add..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok..

OpenStudy (amistre64):

it makes no sense to add 1 to it; or 10 to it; so 100 gets a change in the right direction right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea..

OpenStudy (amistre64):

21912 + 100 ------ 22012 <-- getting warmer :) what do you see we need to add to get the new palindrome?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

10 :D

OpenStudy (amistre64):

good :) so after 100km and 10 more km...how far have they traveld?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

110 km

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lol....

OpenStudy (amistre64):

very good :) and speed is dictanse thru time

OpenStudy (amistre64):

110km/105min =?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

u cant do that though .. cz its in mins and the other one is in km :S ... srry im alittle dumb in math -.-

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if they go 110 km in 105 min we want to know how far they go in 1 min... 110km 105min ------ in ------ = use a calculator :) 105 105

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1.04 ....?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

yes; 1.04....km in 1 min now to find out how many km per hour they were traveling we simply multiply these by 60 minutes right? (60)1.04km in 60(1)min

OpenStudy (anonymous):

62.4...?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

yes, or there abouts... so, if they want kms pwer hour we got: abt 63 km/hr if they want it in minutes we got: abt 1.05km/min right?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

just pick the format they want it in :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh .. ok :D thankyou :D
