if f(a) and f(b) have opposite signs; then that means they crossed over and there is at least one root in the interval if f(a) and f(b) are the same sign, then that just means that it may or maynot have a root in the interval

so calculate f(1) and f(2) and see if there is a change in sign to indicate that it hopped the border
