solve the equation by factoring x^2-x=42

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first, make the equation equal to zero bu subtracting 42 from both sides. then figure out what prime numbers make up the number 42 (2, 3, 7). Since 2*3=6, and that is 1 away from 7, you will likely have 6 and 7 as the two values that you factor

x=7 or x=-6

or you could simply use the quadratic formula \[1 \pm \sqrt{1-4(1)(-42)}\] divided by 2(1)
