what formula do i use to find w?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what would w be ? work ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

width?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

use similarity of triangles. you have two right angles to be your point of reference

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have to find out what w is equal to, this is a geometric means problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i understand. Do you know what i mean by similarity of triangles?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but the formula has to be something like blank/blank = blank/ blank

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4/w=6+w/4 cross mutip 16= w^2+6w 0 = w^2+6w -16 factor: (w-2)(w+8) w=2 or w= -8 the lenght can't negative than the solution is 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks for the help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

u r welco

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, you can devide that image into two triangles: |\ |\ 4 | \ | \ 4 | \ (6+w) and w | \ |____\ |___\ (6+2)/4 = 4/w

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6+2/4 = 4/2 2=2
