The total area of the "dartboard" = 9*9 = 81cm. The total area of the non shaded region = 3*3 = 9cm Therefore the shaded region = 81cm-9cm = 72cm. It seems to me with the way it's worded above that the answer would simply be 72/81=8/9. My pause in that answer is because you are told that 10 darts are thrown. If the answer is to calculate the probability that all 10 darts are within the shaded region, the answer becomes (8/9)^10. But, as written, the number of darts thrown is superfluous to the answer.
