$$y = 0.005*2^{x}$$

I think it is just $$f(x)=2^{x-1}$$ .  This gives the number of pennies.  Of course if you want dollars move the decimal point, but there is no 0.005 in this.

oops.  I see.  the .005 reduces the power by one and moves the decimal.  sorry.
