If you start by finding the volume of the ice in the water (4cm x 35cm x 50cm) you will find that 7000 cm^3 of the ice is underwater. If 7/8 of the ice is underwater then 1/8 is above water (1000 cm^3) and the total volume of the ice is 8000 cm^3.
