determine whether f(x)=5x-4 and g(x)=x+4/5 are inverses

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to take the inverse of a function put it in the form of y=\[y = 5x - 4\] now, invert y to x and x to y:\[x = 5y-4\] solve for y and you'll find the inverse function:\[5y = x + 4\]\[y = {x \over 5} + {4 \over 5} \] The inverse is different from g(x)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

actually did you mean?\[g(x) = {x + 4 \over 5} \]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, that's what I meant

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then yes they are the same\[y = {x \over5} + {4\over5} = {x + 4 \over 5 }\]

thank U very much!
