Mr. Ross bought 1.5 pounds of tomatoes for spaghetti sauce and 8 ounces for salad. Tomatoes cost $2.49 a pound. How much did Mr. Ross pay for the tomatoes? I got $4.99...Is this right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Here tomatoes cost 1 pound. :) The answer is just 2.49*1.5=3.735

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Need to convert the ounces to pounds. 8 oz = 0.5 lb so the total weight bought is 2 lb 2lb * $2.49/lb = $4.89

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or, sorry $4.98 Switched the last two digits while typing.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why do u need to? The question only asks for the cost of tomatoes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

tomatoes cost 2.49, and Ross bought 1.5 pounds

OpenStudy (anonymous):

He bought 1.5 pounds and 8 ounces. For two different purposes, but they're both still tomatoes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ooooo :D I read like 6 times and always thought it is 8 ounce of salad :)
