Penicillin is a group of antibiotics derived from Penicillium fungi.

Penicillin is a beta-lactum antibiotic. It was discovered by Alexander Fleming . The discovery happened by chance( eg: for serendipity). It is synthesized by a mold of genus Penicillium. It is primarily active against Gram Positive bacteria like staphylococci, streptococci etc Examples of penicillin antibiotics are: benzyl penicillim, Ampicillin, amoxycillin, cloxacillin, pipperacillin, ticarcillin , penicillin V etc
