whats -2 3/4 - 9/10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can someone answer my queston

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-2 3/4 - 9/10 make -2 3/4 into a improper fraction -5/4-9/10 find common denominator -25/20-18/20 subtract numerators -43/20 or -2 (3/20)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats exactley what i got but it wasnt right i dont know why

OpenStudy (anonymous):

did they give you what they think the correct answer is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

isn't -2 3/4 = -11/4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no its just multiple choice

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what are your choices?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-11/4-9/10 would then be -55/20-18/20=-73/20=-3 13/20

OpenStudy (anonymous):

pcorn.... 4(-2)=-8+3=-5----->-5/4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-3 11/20

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-3 3/10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-4 6/35

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-4 11/24

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, but it is negative 2 and three fourths right, not negative 2 times three fourths

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes its negative 2 and three fourths

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but you have to make it into an improper fraction and to do that you have to multiply the denominator by the single number and add the numerator

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya so its -11/4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you Mr.t

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-11/4-9/10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok can you show me how you got that...?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-2 3/4 so negative 2x4=8+3 equals 11 with a denominator of 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a negative plus a positive is really subtraction.... -2(4)=-8+3=-5 how do you get rid of your negative?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry its still a negative so its -11/4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok..... I guess that works -11/4 - 9/10 -55/20-18/20=-73/20 simplify -3 (13/20) still isn't one of your answers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

YES YES IT IS THANKYOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh well nevermind then sorry about that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

pcorn i gave you a medal for correcting me thanks
