Zoe can flip a pancake in the air and have it land in the frying pan. The motion of the pancake is represented by the equation y=-9x2+9.8x where x represents the number of seconds after Zoe flips the pancake in the air and y represents the height of the pancake above the frying pan. 1.)How long is the pancake in the air? 2.)At what time does the pancake stop going up and start coming down? 3.)How high is the pancake at the top of its flight?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A. y=-9(x-.55)^2+2.67 therefore the pancake is in the hair for 55 seconds. (You had to change the equation into a standard form and x=.55) B. Divide .55 by 2=.28s C. 2.67 is the max height above the frying pan.

Thanks. But don't you mean the pancake was in the air for .55 seconds? not 55..

lol yea

Now i just gotta figure out how to sketch a parabola of it.. -.-

its an upsode down bowl for starters :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lol that helps alot. maybe i'll just make it really vague...and hopefully my teacher doesnt care.. :D

OpenStudy (amistre64):

its very close to the origin; the axis of symmetry is at 1/2 x and it y intercepts at y = 0 sooo yeah, wing it :)

Lol good answer!
