There isn't one. It's like asking what's the best text editor. I used to use gedit a lot, but lately I tend to use Midnight Commander and a customised IPython in Guake. Each to their own.

If you define what you'd consider good features, people here might be able to offer their take on the best tool for the job.

SQL or NoSQL.  In other words the swiss army knife (SQL) or the ginsu knife (NoSQL).  Pick the best tool for the job.

SQL is good at most everything and is pretty easy to use.  A possible downside is having to create and update schemas and SQL databases don't sync very well across multiple nodes.
NoSQL is great for syncing data across spanning nodes, and does not require schemas.
Take your pick.

It's the question of best or worst but every database has its own features. Some of them are 
mysql, ms-access, oracle, ms-sqlserver, DB2, etc.

Oracle is the best database for business. If you want to go free and open source way MySQL is the best. For learning Oracle is free(as I remember).

One of the best Database in this world is Postgres, is an object-relational database management system (ORDBMS). Being it opensource and free , it has most of all advanced features in it. As Mysql turned propriety under oracle, it ofcourse better to stay with postgresql.
