How Do you remember Mitosis vs Meiosis and the steps involved
As for remembering which word is for which process, how is this? Meiosis results in gametes (egg and sperm), which are very specialized, reproductive cells. Mitosis occurs prior to cell division for all of the OTHER cells in my body, such as the CELLS IN MY TOES. So, mi-TOES-is (correctly spelled miTOSis) is the division of nuclear material prior to cell division in MOST cells. As for remembering the steps involved, start with Mitosis (fewer steps) and memorize the first letter of each step (IPMAT) to remember the order of events. Here is a link for a decent animation: http://www.cellsalive.com/mitosis.htm If you are like me, it will take quite of bit of studying to completely understand Mitosis and Meiosis. If you search in Google using keyword combinations like "memorize mitosis" and "meiosis video" you can find many good websites to help. HTH
