Michael has 4 red shirts, 3 green shirts, and 5 blue shirts in his closet. If he randomly selects a shirt what is the probability that he chooses blue or red?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

9/12 = 3/4

OpenStudy (emmamink):

Well we have 12 shirts right? 9 of the shirts are red and blue, which yields the fraction 9/12, which simplified equals 3/4. That is the probability. @daniel1987600 giving the direct answer is against the code of conduct. Guide the user to the answer, not just tell it to him. Couple minutes later he has a similar question and guess what? He still won't know how to solve it. We need the user to understand how to do something. This is important if he is to improve his math skills.
