i need help doing ratios.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What about ratios?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like how to do them. ex. how would i figure out 3:5???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

divide 3 by 5, or .6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

anything written like x:y is like taking x/y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh. so all i have to do is divide 3 and 5 and it would give me my answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if a decimal is what you are looking for then yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what about if it is not going to be a decimal answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then you just leave it like 3/5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it depends on what the ratio is... sometimes your ratio will be getting smaller hence giving you a number larger than 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There is alot you can do with ratios

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes there is... o kay so how would you solve this? if 34= 6 what would 54= (problem is 34:54)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would write that as 34/6=54/x and cross multiply to solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

34x=54*6 x=324/34 x=9.53

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh thank you for your help
