64p^2-63p+16 factor out

we need to add factors to -63 and that means one of them is odd. The only odd factor of 64 is 1. We try (64p+a)(p+b). This is 64p^2+64pb+ap+ab. to get -63p we choose b=-1, a=1. So we have (64p+1)(p-1), but then ab=-1. to get 16 we need to add 17 to -1. We have (64p+1)(p-1)+17.
