why do animal cells have many small vacuoles and plant cells have 1 or 2 large vacuoles?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Most animal cells don't have vacuoles. It's main function is to stores water, food and minerals. Plants have big vacuoles before this is there storage of extra water, food and nutrients so they will have a reserved resources during drought or any bad times for a plant. For the animal cells on the other hand, just like humans, we store our food as glycogen and it is stored in our muscles and it is used when we do work. So to end it up, the vacuole is the storage of source of energy for plants such as starch for plants and few animals and muscles are the storage of source of energy for most animals like humans. Happy to help and hope I answered your question.
