How Do You Do Percent Of Change ??

OpenStudy (stacey):

Change = percent * original amount

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So if the percent was 30% and the original amount was 15 that would be

OpenStudy (stacey):

Change = 0.30 * 15 = 4.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

10.5

OpenStudy (stacey):

You did not indicate if that was an increase or a decrease, so the new amount could be 10.5 or 19.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well stacey do you know how to multiply a decimal and is over of ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes you are right , but i supposed increasing

OpenStudy (stacey):

I understand how to multiply decimals, but I am not sure I understand the rest of your question.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is ......IS OVER OF and can you teach me how to do the mutiplying decimals ??

OpenStudy (stacey):

Oh. IS over OF is a method of teaching how to find a fraction or percent.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just teach me all of it eog's are next week

OpenStudy (stacey):

For example. What percent is 5 of 25. Since 5 comes right after is, it is over the of portion. Since 25 comes right after of, it goes under the fraction bar. 5/25 = 0.2 Multiply by 100 to get the percent. 20%.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

o i get it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now hw do yu multiply a decimal

OpenStudy (stacey):

Decimals are multiplied like whole numbers, but we have to count the decimal places. For example: 0.5 * 8 5*8 = 40, but 0.5 has one digit after the decimal so we need one digit after the decimal in 40. 0.5 * 8 = 4.0 or 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I get it

OpenStudy (stacey):

Another example: 1.25 * 0.02 125 * 2 = 250 With four decimal places 250 becomes 0.0250 or 0.025

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so another example:O.8 * 15 15 * 8 =120 120=12.0

OpenStudy (stacey):

Very good. Yes. I am glad I was able to help.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

One problem i forgot how to do is over of again

OpenStudy (stacey):

IS/OF Example: What percent of 16 is 10? The number after is goes on top and the number after of goes on bottom. 10/16 (now divide) 10/16 = 0.625 Multiply by 100 to get the percent: 62.5%

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay Thank You I really Understand You Are A Great Help

OpenStudy (stacey):

You're welcome. Good luck on that test.

OpenStudy (anonymous):
