4-4). Solve the following system by eliminating the x variable. 4x-5y=16 -x+y=-3 what is x and what is y?

OpenStudy (watchmath):

Multiply the second equationwith 4 to get \(-4x+4y=-12\). Add it to the first equation to get \(-y=4\). SO \(y=-4\). Plug in \(y=-4\) to the firse equation we have \(4x+20=16\). So \(4x=-4\) and therefore \(x=-1\).
