hmmm, the answer calls for an estimated number and then an exact?

you can estimate by rounding to 4 inches and 1/2 inch.  This would give 8.  Then to be exact you would do what amistre said.

I was saying 8 is an estimate, 4 is just the total length then you would divide by 1/2
