What is the length of an altitude of an equilateral triangle who side length is 8 multiplied by the square root of three?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The altitude of the equilateral triangle is 12.

Thank you! How did you figure that out?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

To answer this you must compare this triangle to a special 30-60-90. Since we know that the hypo of this triangle is 8√3 all we do is set this equal to the hypo on the special triangle and solve for x: 2x = 8√3 x = 4√3 Since the altitude of the special triangle is x√3, we now set these equal to each other to find the altitude of our equilateral triangle: (4√3)(√3) Which equals 12. The altitude of the equilateral triangle is 12.
