how do u use a verticle-line test to determine weather a graph is a graph of a function?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

you draw lines that are pretty much straight up and done the graph; if they hit in more than one spot; its not a function

OpenStudy (amistre64):

a function is defined as one y for every x; so if a vertical line hits 2 ys; it fails tha function definition

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have no idea what you are talking about...but thanks

OpenStudy (amistre64):

well, i had to assume you knew something about the question you asked :)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if I tell you that I am 12 years old and that I am 65 years old; can both be true?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

WAIT. i get it. you have to graph the function table, then draw a line through it, and if it goes through more than one, its not a function?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks :D

OpenStudy (amistre64):

youre welcome :)
