the san benito girls bacsketball has 7 players dressed for a game. a) in how many ways can they be arranged to sit on a bench? b)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a) 7!. you have 7 choices for the first * 6 for the second *5*4*3*2*1=7! b) is there another question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

b) if there is a tie after regulation time, 4 players each take 5 free throws and the team with the highest total wins. how many possibilities does the coach have for selelcting who will break a tie?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you need to choose 4 out of 7. That is 7!/(3!4!)=35

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you know how to find the number of ways to choose r objects from n?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@rsvital: Are you sure about your answer to the first part?!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

pretty much. why do you think it is wrong?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there are 7! ways to permute 7 objects

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes sorry, i skipped a question.. *b) five players are assigned to specific positions for the gamee.how many diff. teams can the coach put out on the floor?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

7*6*5*4*3 ways. order matters so you have 7 choices then 6 then 5...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that is since they have specific positions. If you just wanted to know how many sets of 5 it is 7 choose 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, thankyou!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):
