Can anyone please explain the Linear Approximation for Calc 1?

If you're given a function and asked for the linear approx. of a certain x value, you get the slope of the function at that point by taking the derivative and plugging in x. Then, you get the y value by plugging in x to the original function. Then you plug the slope and the y value into y = mx + b and solve for b. You can also use the point slope formula here. And then you have the equation for the line.
