The iron man triathlon competition has three events: swimming, cycling and running. One participant swam 10km in one hour, rode a bike 140km averaging 20km/h and then ran 24km averaging 10 minutes per km. What was iron man's average speed for the entire 174km of competition???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first try to find the amount of time in hours and the speed in km/h for each event, the last one is tricky so if its 24km and the speed is 10min/km its 24*10 so 240 mins=4 hours and since its 4 hours to run 24km then its 24/4 so 6 km/hr.

but then i still have to find the average for the entire thing right ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do i find average ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

add up the speeds per distance travelled divided by the total different modes travelled (run, ride, swim would be 3 )

alright thank you :)!
