I'm new with algebra and trying to solve a problem from a simple math generator and I got a dif answer than what it says the answer is. The problem is "2x - 0y + 3 if x=3 and y=1" I got 14 but it says the answer is 15. I think my problem is that I don't understand what the zero and y mean together.

OpenStudy (radar):

How did you get 14? I don't see how the answer is 15? Normally you substitute the value in the variable.....this would result in: 2(3)-0y+3 that would result in a value of 9. Do you have this copied correctly?

OpenStudy (radar):

Maybe I should of did it this way: 2(3)-0(1)+3 6-0+3=9

I copied it how the site showed the answer. The site is http://www.321know.com/equ723x3.htm but I don't really know how accurate it is. I'm just trying to study for a test and I need to know some algebra.

I also got 9
