In attempting to suppress the colonial rebellion, Britain had the advantage of wealth, military power, population, and support of many prosperous people in the cities. Yet it failed. What other situations in American history does this bring to mind?

In attempting to suppress the confederate rebellion, The Northern states had the advantage of wealth, military power, population, and support of many prosperous people in the cities and they won.

I meant prosperous people in cities of the regions being invaded, which was not the case in the Civil War. But that's an interesting point. Even without that support, the Union won. With such support, the United States did not prevail in Vietnam.

Both Iraq and Afghanistan are current but look like they fall under this banner. US is one o fthe great supporters of Israel but Palestine is still unconquered.

Actually Joz, I don't think the US has the support of wealthy people living in Iraq and Afghanistan. Also, the goal is not to conquer Palestine. I think you need to do some more research into what's going on in the Middle East.
