Don't know where to start on this story problem. :/ Aki's Bicycle Designs has determined that when x hundred bicycles are built, the average cost per bicycle is given by C(x)=0.5x^2-0.5x+9.416, where C(x) is in hundreds of dollars. How many bicycles should the shop build to minimize the average cost per bicycle?
Are you in calculus, or algebra. Cal solution: deferentiate, solve for x: lowest value is answer
i don't want to guess and check because i feel like that would take a very long time. and i dont know how else to figure it out.
it's algebra 2, but my tutor is in calculus and she's just as bad with story problems as me
how would you differentiate c(x)? would it just be my dy/dx basically?
Avoid the calculus, it is easy but not something you have covered. Just find the vertex as in your previous problem. That would be the min value of x. (Calculus is really for complex problems that can not necessarily be easily deduced.)
i don't really understand how to find the vertex.
Vertex is -b/2a
yeah i forgot about that. i got it. thanks. i keep forgetting to use that formula. makes things difficult.
