A freight train leaves the railyard traveling at 24 miles per hour. One hour later, a passenger train leaves the same area and travels at 32 mph on a parallel track. How long will it be before the passenger train overtakes the freight train?

in one hour the first train has traveled 24 miles. It's distance t hours after that is 24+24t. The passenger train will be a distance 32t. We want the distances to be equal. 24+24t=32t 24=8t t=3 hours

distance=velocity * time
