(2x +1)(x + 4)

note the 2x multiplies the 4 to give 8x + 1 X x to give the 9x

firstly you can use the carrot to donate power or for more complex expressions use the equation editor.

secondly here is the general method to solve such questions: since you can't find a solution using the common factors you have to look for a solution with a negative..which doesn't fit either.
if you know the formula for quadratic equations you'll find that there are no integral roots and hence factors (since all factors are of the form (x - root)).

thirdly the answer to this particular question is (2x+1)(x + 4)
