Is the sequence geometric? 48, 46, 44, 42, ... A. yes B. no I said yes because when you divide like so: 42/44 = .9545454545 etc 44/46 = .956521 etc and etc But is the answer yes even though only the first 2 numbers after the decimal are the same throughout?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Geometric means that from one element to the next you keep dividing by the same number.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Here you are subtracting 2 from the current element to get to the next one.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not dividing.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is an arithmetric series

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No because its arithmetic its -2 everytime. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So its not geometric its arithmetic correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It is not geometric. If it were your test would have given you exactly the same number.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not just the same to 2 decimal places.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thought so.. (: Thanks again!! :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):
