hi i need a example for how you get 3/7 into decimal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i need help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to how many decimal places?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i just need 3/7 into decimal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol well let me assume they don't want you to round it off... then waht you gotta do is say : 3/7 is the same as (3000000000/7) /1000000000 and you can solve for 3000000000/7 using long division (it looks crazy but its actually simple. When you have an answer move the decimal 9 places to the left (i.e dividing by 1000000000)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if they wanted 4 decimal places you could replace the 9 0's by 4 0's

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i don't understand

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well you know long divison right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3/7 is actually 3,000000000000000 / 7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you agree?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

here is an example of of what i need if jane ate 3 of 7 piecesof candy how do i transform that into decimal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3/7 = 0.4285714 using a calculator, do you need to solve it without using a calculator

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its a 5th grade math

OpenStudy (anonymous):

_________ then solve 7|3.0000000

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you solve that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the answer i got was 0.4 with a a remainder of 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats right for one decimal place the answer is 0.4 but you can carry on bringin down 0's and solving for more decimal places.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it depends on what they want you could say 0.4 or 0.43 or 0.429 or 0.4286 all these answers are correct but they are all to a different number of decimal places do you understand what i mean

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why so many zeros

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the ans .04 or .0428

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats why i asked to how many decimal places cos 3/7 = 0.4285714286

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to get that you need 10 '0s' but to get 0.43 you need only 2 0's

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okk thx i got it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha good :) keep at it!
