Someone please answer this :))) Francis has an equal number of nickels, dimes and quarters. If she has $4.40 in coins, then the total number of coins she has is: A.33 B. 30 C.11 D.10

you can either give me the steps to lead to the answer or the answer

OpenStudy (shadowfiend):

The setup is simple. You have an equal number of nickels, dimes, and quarters. We'll call that number \(x\). So you have: \[5x + 10x + 25x = 440\] I'm putting the answer in cents so it's easier. The 5 is for the nickels, 10 for dimes, 25 for quarters. Then you can solve for x :)

thank you
