Need help with the middle peice here... P(x) = 4x3 − 5x2 − 5x − 6 expressed in the form (divisor)(quotient) + remainder for the divisor is (x+3)(__?__)+144.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

How many times does x+3 go into P(x)?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

4x^2 -17x+ 46 ----------------------- x+3 | 4x^3 − 5x^2 − 5x − 6 -12x^2 ------------ -17x^2 -5x 51x ---------- 46x -6 -138 --------- -144 either you have a typo or i do

i got the same answer, but i need to fill in the (__?__) spot. I can't figure what i am doing wrong

OpenStudy (amistre64):

(4x^2 -17x+ 46) IS the blank spot, or should be. Since the +144 is on the end there if might mean somthing different; try using wolframalpha.com

i think i know what i did.. i left it as 4x^3 instead of to the 2nd
