The human mind has an innate desire to be controlled, to melt into the assurance of an all powerful figure, not to have to do anything himself. He transfers authority to the hypnotist. This allows him to do what he would normally not do without guilt... At the same time he cannot admit that he wants to be controlled because that would give up his claim to being super special awesome and having power over his life.
