OpenStudy (anonymous):

time diff=30min. in30 min train a goes 40mile let in time t they catches 80t+40=90t t=4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would like to check this out. The solution says that the trains will have traveled the same distance from the station. Train A passes the station at 5:10 pm. Four (4) hours later or at 9:10 PM it would of traveled 4 hrs at 80 mph or 320 miles. Train B passes this station at 5.40 PM so it needs to travel 320 miles by 9:10 PM. The question is does it?? The time from 5:40 to 9:10 PM t is 3 hr 30 min or 3.5 Hr. Now for the check. The distance train B travel is 3.5 x 90= 315 miles Note this does not equal 320 miles. At 9:10 PM those trains are 5 miles apart. Uh Oh

Somebody needs to go back to the drawing board (hope it's not me lol)

OpenStudy (radar):

The time would be 9:40 fast train would travel 4 hrs @ 90 mph for 360 miles. sloe train would travel 4.5 hrs @ 80 mph for 360 miles
