what does it mean when the directions say use continuity to evaluate the limit

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lim e^(8 x^5 - 8 x) x->1

Well, for a continuous function: \[\lim_{x \rightarrow a} f(x)= f(a)\]

So in your case, just plug in 1 for x, and since the exponential function is continuous you know that the limit is the value of the function at that point.
