The energy derived from the main source(plant:photosynthesis) is being transfered from one trophic level to the other. There is what we call a 10% rule for the transfer of energy. Well, the energy is essential for all. It is used for cellular processes(e.g cell respiration, performing work, mitosis, meiosis etc.) Therefore, I'll go for B. That's the best answer. ^_^
