ok distribute the negative sign and collect like terms: a^2-3a-5+a^2+7a-4 (1+1)a^2+(-3+7)a+(-5-4) 2a^2+4a-9

so the first thing you did is change the subtraction sign rite?

yep i distributed it through the three terms in parenthesis, then combined like terms
