thisis the prompt : A range of academic interests, personal perspectives, and life experiences adds much to the educational mix. Given your personal background, describe an experience that illustrates what you would bring to the diversity in a college community or an encounter that demonstrated the importance of diversity to you.
sounds kinda personal - but I would be thinking about the times that I was an outsider and how being an outsider gave me a different perspective.
Think about different aspects of your identity and how you identify yourself ---what are some of the most apparent aspects and what are hidden aspects? What are the most salient identities? The big 8 social identity groups are: ability, age, ethnicity, gender, race, religion/spirituality, sexual orientation, socio-economic status. Of course, you may view yourself as a combination of intersecting identities that make you unique. For instance, a person could have dual citizenship or be a refugee; could be the first in the family to go to college; could have overcome hardships and obstacles; could have special talents in music/athletics, service & leadership, etc. Each person has a special story and background to share to expand learning and cultural exchange.
