what is owlfred for other than telling me i've asked my first question?
the illusion of feeling heard?
owlfred appears to be an automated response that tells you to hold on while it posts "somebody asked a question" in the chat bax... as if we were all in the chat box lol
he makes me feel like a child when he tells me i asked my first question.... i havent seen a point in him/her/thing/it other than that :|
yeah, it like the close door button on an elevator; just there to make you feel ....... better?
tomservo was one attempt they made at trying to get qs answered but it seemed to intimidate people away... "Hey you! you seem smart enough to answer a question...try it!" Nothing like having anxiety from a bot lol
yeah the insecurity of owlfred staring at me all the time...
He does post a message in the Chat about your first question!
Hehe. Owlfred is actually a real user! He's our mascot! He also does the auto-response though. We'll be tweaking how we present that over the next week or so so that it's not actually an auto-response. The purpose is two-fold -- to let you know that there are people coming, and to let you know about the `good answer' button. I'm still not sure it's doing those successfully :p
