What is the study of bioinformatics about and how does bioinformatics related to systems biology?

Well, some couple of years back, i asked same question because i felt bioinformatics at its best is just a romance of Biology and computer science and that they basically design softwares to solve biological problems....They do more than that, according to a wikipedia source, their research is focused on things such as sequence alignment, gene finding, genome assembly, drug design, drug discovery, protein structure alignment, protein structure prediction, prediction of gene expression and protein–protein interactions, genome-wide association studies and the modeling of evolution. My definition after much synthesis would be, Bioinformatics is a field of study that introduces computational methods to solve huge biological problems e.g. identification of the millions of genes in Human "The Human Genome Project", drug design and drug discovery.......

As for system biology, its a science which tries to poke into anything that has a cell.... its usually interdisciplinary and at some stage, might involve bioinformatics, genetics, molecular biology ....etc

maybe you can hear about theory of the system, well with this theory you can understand a system very complex in these case a system biology. But you can make a flow diagram that represent your problem system and with help to a computer you can stablish a model. but in bioinformatics you work with programs that helped full you was secuencced the RNA , DNA or some protein. for example you need have AATTCCATAGGG..A..A.A.G.G.T.T. .... and the program for BLAST, search secuence homologous for problem. exist other programs I recoment that you check the course of molecular biology of MIT... saludos
