if sin ^ 2 x =sin 4 x.what is x.pls help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\sin ^{2}x=\sin4x\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

= +4 , - 4 but I'm not sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you have a selections of answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there are many solutions here.....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

some solutions are 0,180 360 degrees

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if tried plugging in identities but got nowhere. by inspection one solution is sin x = 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for advanced students you can use newtons method of iteration

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lets try again sin^2x = 2 sin2xcos2x 1/2 - (1/2)cos2x = 2 cos2xsin2x this might be the way to go i have to go now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

geee my pc keeps hanging up...lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the best way of getting a solution roots is to use newtons method here, but its pretyy advanced for high school students who didnt take calculus yet..lol....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i graphed this on my calculator and there are 9 roots between 0 and 360 degrees!! 0, 180, 360, 39.1, 106.7, 124.2, 219.1, 286.7, 304.2 mark was right! many roots!

tnx a lot guys!!
