He was the reason the Iran Hostage Crisis started. The Shah and the US had very good relations with each other. The US thought that they could use the Shah to help themselves with foreign policy in the Middle East. So when then President Carter went to the Middle East, he'd compliment the Shah and praise him. In actuality, the Shah was an autocratic monster that would steal from the people of Iran. When the Iranian Revolution took place, the US refused to help the Iranians fight the cruel dictator that was the Shah. When the Shah was exiled from Iran, he fled to the US and the US eventually granted him political asylum within the US. The Iranians became very very upset over this and in retaliation, decided to take a bunch of hostages at the American embassy in Iran and the Iranian Hostage Crisis started.
