mutations are produced when an error occurs in a cell that is currently developing
mutations occur when an error occurs in DNA coding of a cell which results in abnormal growth of the cell .
Mutations could be caused by a variety of mechanisms including chemical- or radiation-induced damage to the DNA in a cell. A change in the sequence of nucleotides such as replacement, deletion or insertion of nucleotides has taken place in the DNA, either protein that this part of the DNA encodes gets changed or the regulation of gene expression originating from this part of DNA gets altered. All these could lead to change in the phenotype of the organism.
