Jay's Treaty solved issues left from the Amer Revolution and opened years of peaceful trade during the French Revolutionary Wars.
The Jay Treaty allowed the newly formed United States to keep is hard fought independence from the British.
While both these answers are correct, more in depthly, Jay's Treaty settled some disputes between the US and Britain that had occurred after the American Revolution. It called for the British to back out of their pre Revolutionary forts that had remained after the Revolution. It also settled some debate about debt incurred during the Revolutionary War. Jeffersonians (Those who believed in a strict interpretation of the Constitution) disliked the treaty because it was made by the then Secretary of Treasury of the time, Alexander Hamilton, who believed in a a loose interpretation of the Constitution. The Jeffersonians believed that the treaty strengthened American ties with Britain and the Federalists (the political party Hamilton and much of the north belonged to) favored ties with Britain. In contrast, the Jeffersonians favored ties with France, a country that was at war with Britain at the time so the US had to pick which it favored, Britain or France. In summary, the treaty settled land disputes and debt disputes but it was part of a much larger controversy between the Jeffersonians and the Federalists.
