some of them. 2x^4-3x^2+10=0 can be solved as a quadratic by taking u=x^2

Strictly speaking no. We expect a quadratic to have the highest index in any variable to be 2. But equations with a highest index ao an even number can often be found to be quadratics in disguise! :D
