= 3 + 3/8 + (8 1/4 - 6 3/8) / 3 calculate the brackets first 8 1/4 - 3 3/8 = 33/4 - 51/8 = 66/8 - 51/8 = 15/8 now do the divide by 3 =15/8 x 1/3 = 15/24 now do all the adds 3 + 3/8 + 15/24 = 72/24 + 9/24 + 15/24 = 96/24 = 4
